From an excellent cool year with very low yields, the ‘Stella’ has a ripe peach core with a level of complexity and length of flavour only found in the finest examples of Chardonnay.

NOTES FROM THE WINE MAKER

The 'Stella' is the first release of chardonnay made from our 30 year old vines. The grapes were carefully selected, then hand picked and whole bunch pressed. This was followed by fermentation and ageing in 30% new French barriques for nine months, with half the wine undergoing malolactic fermentation.

REVIEWS

“We are in the company of A Class Chardonnay here. Indeed this is as convincing a chardonnay as you ever will encounter. It tastes of grilled peaches and nuts, flint, white flowers and meal, with perhaps a flash of cinnamon in the mix too. But forget the descriptors. The result is a wine of brilliant intensity, character and length, and that’s all you need to know. It’s the perfect example of just how glorious Adelaide Hills Chardonnay can be. 96 points - campbellmattinson.com

“The first release of this wine. From 30-year-old vines. Quite a bit of concentration to be found here. So too lavish, spicy, cedary oak. That being said, there's good concentration of nectarine, peach, just-ripe pineapple and some green apple crunch also found. It's got creaminess and yet some chalky elements, too. A lot going on, is the message, and complexity is a by-word.” 94 Points - Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion, Published 11 March 2025

“This vineyard has been around for 30 years and this is the first chardonnay release. Not sure why they waited so long, but it is looking mighty fine. Follows the fairly standard approach of handpicking, whole bunch pressing and then fermentation and maturation in a mix of new and older French barriques. Cashew and lemon tart characters on the nose merge into the palate. It has a slightly savoury element with the primary fruit characters still evident. About half the wine went through malolactic fermentation which was probably a combination of managing the cooler year and introducing another level of palate complexity.” 94 Points - Ray Jordan, winepilot.com
